The basics5 questions
What is a stubby holder?
A stubby holder is an insulated sleeve that wraps around a can or bottle to keep your drink cold and your hand dry. The name comes from the classic Australian 375ml beer bottle, known as a stubby, short and stubby in shape. Ours are made from thick neoprene, the same material as a wetsuit, so they insulate well and feel great in the hand.
What is the difference between a stubby holder and a can cooler?
They are the same thing, named differently in different places. Stubby holder is the Australian and New Zealand term. Around the world you will also hear can cooler, can hugger, bottle cooler, and beer sleeve. Whatever you call it, the job is the same: keep the drink cold, stop the condensation, protect your hand from the chill. Stubbyz are the original Australian stubby holder.
What are Stubbyz called in other countries?
In Australia and New Zealand they are stubby holders or stubbies. In the UK and Europe people often say can cooler or bottle cooler. In Canada you might hear can hugger or cooler. The product is loved well beyond Australia, and we ship Stubbyz worldwide so you can get the real Australian original wherever you are.
Why are they called Stubbyz?
Australian beer was traditionally sold in 375ml bottles with a short, stubby shape, called stubbies. The holder that kept them cold became the stubby holder. Stubbyz is our take on the original, made in Australia, with bright designs and premium materials.
Are Stubbyz the original stubby cooler?
Yes. Stubbyz are the original Australian stubby holder, with heritage going back to the 1970s. We make them in Melbourne with real neoprene and proper stitching, not the thin foam or floppy sleeves you find elsewhere.
Fit and sizing7 questions
Which size do I need: Standard, Slim, or One Size?
Standard fits a 375ml can or bottle, the most common Australian size. Slim fits 330ml drinks like slim cans, slimline bottles, and many imported beers. One Size is our flexible, baseless design that stretches to fit a wide range from skinny Euro-style bottles up to standard cans, ideal for festivals, pubs, and out on the town. If you are not sure, tell us what you drink and we will point you to the right one.
Will a Stubbyz fit my can?
Standard Stubbyz fit standard 375ml cans. Slim Stubbyz fit 250ml to 330ml slim bottles like many Euro-style "slimmer" bottles. One Size stretches to cover both. Tallboys and 500ml cans are larger than a standard stubby holder, so check the size before ordering.
Will a Stubbyz fit my bottle?
Yes for most standard bottles. Standard fits 375ml stubby bottles. Slim is the one customers reach for with 330ml bottles like Corona and many imported beers, and slimline bottles. Customers regularly tell us their 330ml bottles fit perfectly. If you have an unusual bottle, message us and we will help you choose.
Do you have a stubby holder for slim cans and bottles?
We do. Our Slim range is made specifically for 330ml slim bottles, including vodka cruisers, Stella, and Heineken. Slim bottles slip out of oversized holders, so a Slim Stubbyz gives the snug fit you want.
Will a stubby holder fit a 330ml bottle like a Heineken or Corona?
Yes. The size customers most often use for 330ml bottles is our Slim. Reviewers tell us their Heineken and Corona bottles fit snugly. Pick Slim for 330ml, or One Size if you want something that covers a range of drinks.
Can I use a Stubbyz for soft drinks, water, or non-alcoholic cans?
Absolutely. Stubbyz work for any cold can or bottle, including soft drinks, sparkling water, kombucha, sodastream bottles, and reusable water bottles. Plenty of customers use them to keep a water bottle cold and to stop condensation dripping in a bag on a hot day. Check our product and site reviews as customers are images and detail sizing. Keep in mind, Mini cans are not "Slim" and will fit loose.
My drink feels loose in the holder. What size should I get?
A loose fit usually means the drink is slimmer than the holder. If a Standard feels loose, move down to Slim for 330ml and slimline drinks. Not sure? Send us the exact can or bottle size in millilitres and we will recommend the right fit.
Contact usQuality and materials6 questions
What are Stubbyz made from?
Real neoprene, the same closed-cell material used in wetsuits. Neoprene insulates well, resists water and UV, is flexible and tough, and prints beautifully in full colour. It is what makes a Stubbyz keep your drink cold even in the sun, and it is why ours last for years.
How is neoprene better than foam?
Foam sleeves are thin, floppy, and fade. Neoprene is thicker, springs back to shape, grips your drink, wicks moisture so your hand stays dry, and holds vibrant print far longer. It is more premium, and it lasts. Many customers come to us after their old foam or cheap sleeves went drab and saggy.
Do Stubbyz keep my drink cold?
Yes. The thick neoprene slows heat getting to your drink and keeps it colder for longer, even on a hot Australian summer day. It also stops the can or bottle sweating, so you do not get a wet ring on the table or a slippery grip.
How long will a Stubbyz keep my drink cold?
A neoprene stubby holder noticeably slows your drink warming up compared to holding a bare can. It is designed for everyday use at the BBQ, the beach, the festival, or the backyard. For all-day cold in extreme heat a vacuum flask is a different tool, but for keeping your everyday drink cold and your hand dry, neoprene is the classic choice and ours is premium grade.
Are Stubbyz good quality?
Our customers think so. Stubbyz are made with thick neoprene, tight multi-stitched seams, and premium full-colour print. Across our reviews the words that come up again and again are great quality, well made, vibrant, and sturdy. We build them to last.
How are Stubbyz made?
We make them in Melbourne. Premium 5mm neoprene, full-colour dye-sublimation print for bright, lasting designs, and properly stitched seams. You can choose a glued base for stability or a baseless design for festivals and easy packing.
Care and durability4 questions
How do I wash my Stubbyz?
Hand wash in warm soapy water, rinse, and air dry. Neoprene is hard wearing and the dye-sublimation print will not crack or peel, so a quick wash keeps your Stubbyz looking bright for years. Avoid putting it through a hot dryer.
Will the print fade?
No. We use dye-sublimation, which bonds the design into the neoprene rather than sitting on top of it. The colours stay vibrant through plenty of use and washing. Customers have told us their Stubbyz still look as good after many years.
How long do Stubbyz last?
Years, with normal use. The neoprene keeps its shape, the seams hold, and the print stays bright. We have heard from customers replacing a Stubbyz gift from years ago only because they wanted a new design, not because the old one wore out.
Do Stubbyz fold flat for transport?
Our Standard and Slim premium ranges use a base and side seam that keep their shape, so they are not flat-pack, but they are sturdy, stand tall, and are built to last. Our One Size is baseless and overlocked top and bottom, designed for mobile use at festivals, pubs, and out on the town, and packs down easily. They are light and easy to pack, which is why so many travellers take them overseas as gifts.
Australian Made2 questions
Are Stubbyz made in Australia?
Yes. Stubbyz are hand made in Melbourne, Australia, and are certified Australian Made. Some materials may be imported, but the product is made here.
Australian MadeWhy does Australian Made matter?
It means real local manufacturing, quality control you can trust, faster turnaround for local orders, and support for Australian jobs. For many corporate and government buyers, Australian Made is a genuine requirement. For everyone else, it is the difference between a holder that lasts and a cheap import that fades. It is also why Stubbyz make such a meaningful gift to send overseas.
